Jules Urbach, Founder of OTOY, to Speak at COSM 2021

George Gilder has called him "ingenious" and "the most inventive software engineer" he has ever met

Dozens of brilliant minds in technology will be flocking to Bellevue, Washington this November for the exclusive national summit known as COSM. Among them will be founder and CEO of OTOY and Lightstage, Jules Urbach.

Philosopher of technology George Gilder has called him “ingenious” and “the most inventive software engineer” he has ever met. Gilder holds a a 20-year investment in OTOY. What has earned Urbach such high praise?

Urbach has been a bold pioneer in computer graphics from a young age. At eighteen years old, he created one of the first CD-ROM games ever created, Hell Cab. Six years later, he founded Groove Alliance, which went on to produce Real Pool, the first 3D game available on Shockwave.com.

In 2008, Urbach founded OTOY, a digital effects company providing tools to individuals and corporations alike to create visual art. With OTOY, he would like to revolutionize 3D rendering, but his vision goes deeper than that.

“Every single person should have agency to create,” he explains in the below video, “and I feel if we do our jobs right, everyone with an idea is going to be able to render things.”

OTOY is currently working on a project entitled “The Roddenberry Archive:”

The Roddenberry Archive is cataloguing key texts and documents from Gene Rodenberry’s life and career as well as canonically memorializing quiescent reference 3D models of the Starship Enterprise – including studio models as filmed on set and life-size 1:1 scale ‘in Universe’ versions. In the years ahead, the archive will continue to map out iconic reference designs from the Gene Roddenberry era of Star Trek – which includes the original Star Trek television series, the original six Star Trek motion pictures, and Star Trek: The Next Generation as well as its direct spin-offs.

At COSM 2021 on November 10, Urbach will be addressing the topic “NFTs: The Reinvention of Property.” In a recent interview with CNBC, Urbach spoke of the promising future for non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and how OTOY has been able to venture into that future.

Babak Parviz, Inventor of Google Glass, Returns to COSM 2021. Parviz will be addressing the question, “Is It the End for Silicon Valley?” Parviz has an impressive history that spans engineering and health care issues, but he is perhaps most famous for his leadership in developing Google Glass.

Peter Thiel Speaking in Person at COSM, Seattle, November 10. As a world class venture capitalist, he is known for bluntness about what works and what doesn’t. COSM 2021 focuses on the converging technologies, remaking our world. Thiel asks, is new tech soaring or slumping?

Publisher of Popular Electronics To Speak at COSM 2021. Futurist John Schroeter is an author as well as a publisher and developer. John Schroeter’s technology for eliminating counterfeit drugs won the Frost & Sullivan’s Technology Innovation of the Year Award.
